Ramchand Pakistani Music Review

Ramchand Pakistani is perhaps one of those rare soundtracks that epitomizes the now-forgotten link between India and Pakistan. The best song that brings forward this bond is the revival of the Bangla folk classic, Allah megh de, with Shubha Mudgal and Shafqat Amanat Ali’s vocals - this is a soulful and compelling rendition of an already memorable track. Shafqat’s Phir wohi raastey is the pick of the soundtrack, however. Starting out a bit like the composer’s Raincoat number, Mathura Nagarpati, this haunting track has everything going for it! The playfully mesmerizing folk tune, Teri meri preet and the rueful Meri maati amply showcase Shubha Mudgal’s grasp over the musical expressions. The instrumental medley Ramchand ka safar traverses through the idyllic childhood of the little protagonist, takes a sudden twist into utter despair and then gets solemnly submissive. The three bonus Sindhi tracks, Ustad Juman’s Yaar dhadhi, Allan Faqir’s Tarin paunda and Mai Bhagi’s Kari neem ke neechey are flawlessly appropriate additions to this already delightful soundtrack. Composer Debojyoti Mishra may have left sporadic impressions over Hindi films, but in Ramchand Pakistani, he assembles an extremely thoughtful and thematic score that literally spearheads the anticipation for the film! Must-listen soundtrack, this!
